Hello!

As I mentioned in the community bio, this is a book review/analysis community loosely themed around finding books that we remember enjoying (or not enjoying) in the past and seeing how they hold up now.

That said, it's not really a hardcore rule. For example, if someone wants to review a whole series, but has only read a few of the books, it would be fine to review all of them.

Honestly, if someone wants to read and review a brand new book entirely, because it was notably cool or horrible, that's okay too.

1. Please be civil. Sometimes people feel very strongly about their old favorites. It can be hard to see someone be very harsh to a book you love, or praise a book that you find offensive. Discussion is great. Even argument, as long as it's civil, but please avoid personal attacks.

2. Please try to avoid making broad conclusions about fans of these books. Many of the books we choose may prove themselves to be racist, sexist, homophobic, et cetera. And we SHOULD call that out when we see it.

But we can also acknowledge that there are any number of reasons someone might be a fan of something, even granting those issues. It was a comfort during a difficult time in their life. It was the first time they saw someone like themselves in a book. It was what was available to them at the time that they read it. Those are all possible reasons why a decent person might enjoy a terrible book, and there are many more.

I think that we can critique the book and definitely the author without making general assumptions about the people who enjoy them. (If you want to critique a particular fan or defender for something they've said about it, that's perfectly fine.)

3. Please tag appropriately. Title, Author, Series if applicable, reviewer, and finally any content warnings that you feel are appropriate. I've never been good at remembering to content warn so I won't get mad if you forget, but please be prepared to add warning tags if asked.

4. Please keep it to books rather than fanfic. I'm not someone who believes fanfic should be above criticism by any means, but I do think it seems a bit harsh to subject an amateur creation to the same level of judgment that we use for something that's presumably been through a full editing and publication process.

Oh, and we have a discord now!

I think that's all. I hope we have fun!
