Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern - Chapter Two

So last time, we met Moreta, our lead character, and got to see, yet again, how absolutely shitty the entire Weyr system is. I should note that this is a Watsonian critique. I don't mind reading stories about horrible societies filled with awful people. But I do, on some level, resent Ms. McCaffrey for creating this marvelously involved fantasy in which having a dragon actually sounds like the absolute worst thing ever.

I'm childish that way.

Anyway, we also met Alessan, who is the probable love interest, and also probable ancestor of Lessa. I'm already inclined to like him, and he's so far on the short list of male love interests in this series who aren't horrible.

Now we get to see what happens to them.
