Hmm... going by the description, I think Kellendil is a Sun Elf, which, if IIRC, are the group most magically gifted.
Sun Elves, are also the type to look down on other elves and may be the biggest bunch of assholes among the Surface Elves. I think the kin Kellindil mentioned here are Wood Elves, they're not as jerkish as the Sun Elves, but they don't usually like people much, even if they tolerate them. Moon Elves are the most social of the surface elves, and then there are the Wild Elves.
Wild Elves are more isolationist than the Wood Elves, I think and are also nicknamed Green Elves.
There are also the Eladrin, but they're not known yet in the series timeline. They show up in... 4E I think?
Anywho, if I'm right about Kellindil being a Sun Elf, then he's most likely a nicer example of them.
